Single-jacket fire hoses consist of one outer jacket woven from synthetic fabric and an inner tube. The purpose of the jacket is to provide enough strength to hold the fluid pressure while still being lightweight. Our single-jacket hoses are primarily used in forestry, fire standby, and mill protection applications. They should not be used if the hose is dragged repeatedly or exposed to rough environments. Double-Jacket:

Double-jacket fire hoses have an extra layer of synthetic fabric making them more resilient in severe applications. Incidentally, this extra jacket also allows for higher working pressures making it a suitable choice for washdown service. The extra durability does come with a trade-off however, as it makes the hose significantly heavier compared to a single-jacket hose, especially when wet. Through-the-Weave:

Through-the-weave rubber hoses are often used in place of jack eted fire hoses for applications such as washdown service at pulp mills and chemical plants, standby forest fire protection, as well as for municipal fire hose service. Their specially designed construc tion featuring a Nitrile/PVC blend rubber compound completely encases the jacket to provide a long-lasting hose when compared to conventional fabric covered fire hose while maintaining the advantage of being lightweight. Through-the-weave hoses offer greater wear and chemical resistance and have the added benefit of being able to be wiped clean after service.

CHOOSING A FIRE HOSE

HOW TO MEASURE A MALE FIRE HOSE THREAD Take a strip of paper about 1" wide and wrap it around the male thread snugly so that it overlaps. Where the two ends overlap, use a pin to pierce the paper so that there is a hole in both ends. Press your thumb against the paper so that the threads leave an impression. Remove the paper and measure the distance between the pinholes. This distance, divided by 3.1416, equals the thread O.D. Count the number of thread impressions showing on the paper and divide by the total width of the impressions (in inches). This figure is the pitch in threads per inch.

For 2 1 ⁄ 2 " I.D. fire hose, threads can vary by region and so users need to ensure that the threaded fittings are compatible with the hydrant or standpipe to which the hose will be coupled. Municipalities and fire departments in different regions choose from a variety of available threads. Use the thread measure ment information and table provided t o determine which thread you need.
