One-Piece Crimp Couplings:

Non-Skive:

Non-skive couplings can be attached to a hose without needing to remove the outer cover or inner tube. Ferrules have sharp teeth to bite through the rubber cover and create a metal-to-metal bond between the coupling and the hose, removing the need for skiving equipment. Non-skive couplings allow for faster assembly times, protection of the wire reinforcement from corrosion, and elimination of premature hose failure due to under or over skiving. External Skive:

In the aftermarket, distributors often prefer one-piece crimp cou pling systems. One-piece crimp coupling systems are designed to be used on the two or three most popular hose styles, providing the distributor with the most straightforward and convenient solution to a customer’s needs. Two-Piece Crimp Couplings:

External skiving is the process of removing a predetermined length of the hose cover to ensure a metal-to-metal connection between the hose and coupling. By removing the outer cover, the ferrule is able to bite directly into the wire reinforcement. The majority or our skive couplings only require an external skive which is suitable for most pressure applications. Internal Skive:

Broadly speaking, OEM assemblers prefer two-piece crimp coupling systems. Two-piece crimp coupling systems allow interchangeable crimp stems to be matched to a ferrule that is ideally suited to a given hose style, allowing the advantage of inventory efficiency and flexibility. Reusable Couplings:

Commonly used in the agriculture and transport industries, reusable couplings allow hose to be assembled without crimping or swaging equipment. In most cases, reusable couplings consist of two pieces, a socket and a nipple, and can be assembled anywhere with minimal tools.

Internal skiving is used in very high-pressure applications and is done in tandem with external skiving by removing a predetermined length of the inner tube of the hose. Only Pulsar 8600 Interlock Series couplings require an internal skive so that during the crimping pro cess, the bare wire reinforcement is locked over a specially designed shoulder on the coupling. Special care must be taken when skiving. Always consult an up-to-date crimp chart to determine skive lengths for your hose assembly.
