HYDRAULIC HOSE SELECTION GUIDE

Single Wire:

NOVA HHH Standard Cover:

Using high-tensile wire, single wire braid hoses will often have ade quate working pressure for many systems and will provide the most cost-effective option.

Pulsar’s NOVA cover comes standard on all braided and spiral hydraulic hoses and exceeds the ISO 6945 standard abrasion requirement. Our NOVA covers are wrapped and are resistant to oils and weather.

Double Wire:

CARBONITE HHHH HARC Cover:

A double wire braid which is separated by a rubber layer greatly extends hose life at a small premium while at the same time offering a wider range or working pressures.

For improved abrasion resistance, Pulsar now offers the CARBONITE high abrasion resistant cover (HARC). With 10 times the abrasion resistance as required by the ISO 6945 standard and an improved resistance to weathering, this smooth cover is the perfect addition to our compact and ultra wire hose offering to provide longer hose life.

Four or Six Spiral:

AURORA HHHHH Armour Cover:

Spiral reinforcement allows for higher system pressures while retain ing flexibility. Wires are applied in four or six spiralled layers rather than in braids.

For the ultimate abrasion resistant cover, turn to our AURORA armour cover. Tested to over 1,000,000 cycles without loss of weight, this bi-layer technology offers improved resistance to oils and weathering and is available on compact and ultra wire hose as well as four spiral hose. Should you require it, the AURORA armour cover can be added to any of our braided or spiral hydraulic hoses by special request. •••••••••• APPPLICATION••••••••• Temperature: It is important to consider temperature both inside and outside of the hose. Different temperature ratings can occur for different fluids. Always refer to the Temperature Range for each individual hose. For the most severe temperatures, such as polar climates or cold storage facilities, consider using one of our Extreme or Ice-Breaker hydraulic hoses. Pressure:

•••••• STANDARD VS COMPACT •••••• Compact Hose:

Modern manufacturing equipment allows single and double wire braided hose to be manufactured to exacting tolerances. This process control has allowed the development of products with thinner covers and tubes, resulting in products with reduced weight, increased flexibility, and, most importantly for OEM customers, reduced cost.

Standard Hose:

There is a trade-off to using compact hose. Thinner covers mean that the hoses are more easily damaged by abrasion and, as noted above, if the braid is exposed, it will result in an early failure. Furthermore, as all rubbers break down over time from exposure to ozone and weathering, a thinner cover generally reduces hose life, particularly in tight bend situations.

All Pulsar hydraulic hoses meet or exceed industry specifications and feature a 4:1 burst pressure to working pressure ratio. Please note, the working pressure, not the burst pressure, should account for the working pressure of the system, any surges or spikes it may encounter, and any of the hose assembly components including threads and couplings which will result in the lesser of the ratings being used. Media:

Pulsar hydraulic hoses all feature oil resistant tubes and covers. Some Pulsar hoses are designed for use with water only such as Storm Pressure Wash Hose and Water Blast Hose. If the applications requires the use of specialized oils or chemicals, use the Fluid Compatibility Chart found in the Technical Information section of this catalog to help guide your selection.
